Terms of Service
What you're using
Heirloom is an iOS app and supporting web infrastructure that helps you record, keep, and share memories with people you love. By using the app you agree to these terms. They're written to be readable, not to hide things in fine print.
Your account
Most of the app works without an account. You can record memories and keep your own book entirely on-device. To receive shares from others on your Shelf, you sign in with Apple. You're responsible for the security of the device and Apple ID you sign in from.
Your content
You own everything you create. We don't claim any ownership of your memories. By sharing a memory or book through Heirloom, you grant us a limited license to store, transmit, and display that share to the recipients you specify, for as long as the share is active.
Shares and recipients
- You're responsible for who you send shares to. Double-check the recipient's email before sending.
- Anyone with the share link can open the share. Treat the link like a door key.
- We send a confirmation email to you with a withdrawal link. If you sent something to the wrong person, withdraw it as quickly as you can.
- Shares expire automatically after the period set at send time (default one year).
Family books
A family book is written by several members together. A few ground rules:
- The person who creates the book (the keeper) approves who joins, can remove any entry, can remove members, and can close the book.
- Entries you add are visible to every approved member of that book, attributed to the name you joined with.
- You can remove your own entries at any time; removal deletes the entry's media from our servers.
- Every member can report an entry from inside the app. Reports go to our moderation team at abuse@heirloom-book.com; we review reports within 24 hours and remove content that violates these terms. You can also block another member; the service then hides each person's entries from the other.
- Text is screened before publication for direct threats and illegal sexual-exploitation content. Content that triggers the screen must be revised before it can be posted.
- The acceptable-use rules below apply to everything posted in a family book. We may remove content or eject members who violate them.
Acceptable use
Don't use Heirloom to:
- Send harassing, threatening, or illegal content to anyone.
- Distribute malware, phishing material, or non-consensual intimate content.
- Impersonate another person.
- Reverse-engineer the app or attempt to break our infrastructure.
We may revoke shares, suspend accounts, or refuse service to anyone we reasonably believe is using Heirloom in violation of these terms or applicable law.
Subscriptions
Some features (sending shares, scheduled release, and unlimited guided sessions) are gated behind Heirloom membership. The Apple Digital Legacy guide is free. Subscriptions are processed by Apple via the App Store and renew automatically until canceled in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. We don't receive your payment details.
Service availability
Heirloom is provided as-is. We aim for high availability but don't guarantee uninterrupted service. Recording, viewing your own book, and locally-stored memories work without our servers.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Heirloom and Alma Innovations Ltd. are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill arising from your use of the app or service.
Changes
We may update these terms. For material changes we'll notify you in the app. Continuing to use the app after the update means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Israel, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
